Tiger King
Joe Exotic is one character that we will never forget, and sometimes through his delusional ways, the public actually forgets that he is a real person! The Tiger King docuseries peaked at the beginning of the global pandemic lockdown when the only activity we could truly partake in was watching TV. Focusing on the GW Zoo, Oklahoma, and its founder, money-making activist, Joe Exotic, the show dove deep into Exotic’s crazy ways and more prominently, his feud with a long-time competitor and hater, Carol Baskin. Did you know that she fed her husband to the tigers? Well, we don’t know how legitimate that statement is, but the internet world certainly seemed to love it! The dynamics, personalities, and scenes within this docuseries are sure to leave you extremely confused, that’s for sure, however, it is still one of the greatest documentaries Netflix has to offer and you can watch on your laptop.
Blackfish
This social and cultural documentary focuses on the killer whale species, and more specifically on Orca’s kept in captivity. Blackfish primarily revolves around the famous whale, Tilikum, who was kept in captivity at Seaworld’s Orlando Resort for the majority of his life, before he passed away in 2016. The documentary dives deep into businesses, such as Seaworld, and their exploitation of killer whales who should be kept within the open sea, not captivity. Not only is the documentary extremely eye-opening, but its production has been highly influential too. As a result of the backlash from critics and the public, Seaworld ended its orca breeding program in California within 2016, showing the true effects a public and popular documentary can make. This has got to be one of the most mind-altering documentaries Netflix has to offer as it covers the mind and murders of the Seaworld Orca. We can guarantee that if you are a fan of Seaworld parks, after watching this documentary, your opinion on their organization values will be slightly altered.
